unbearable lightness is a work in development that is both a durational instillation and an evening-length performance. The project is a series of performance reveries on being alive, breath, and balloons. It begins as an exploration of breath with a lightweight object: a latex balloon. As a balloon gives shape to breath, playful opportunities emerge for breath to give shape to the body and for the body to be held by breath. One lone white balloon becomes many bubblegum pink balloons, and 99 red balloons–an ode to Nena’s anti-war classic.
